00:07 How to make crepes – easy crepe recipe
00:08 Hello and welcome back to in the kitchen with Matt.
00:10 I am your host Matt Taylor.
00:13 Today I am going to show you how to make crepes, or the French pronunciation I believe is crepe.
00:20 I had a request to make a video on crepes, so here we go.
00:24 Crepes are really easy to do, if I can do it, you can do it.
00:28 Let’s get started.
00:30 First some people like to do this in a blender, so I have a blender here, but I am going to
00:35 do this with a hand mixer, you can use a stand mixer if you want, or you can use a whisk.
00:40 But uh, let’s first start off with 2 eggs, 1 and 1 half cups of milk, this is 2 percent
00:48 milk, but you can use 1 percent, or whole milk, if you like, 1 tsp. of oil this is canola
00:55 oil, or you can use vegetable oil.
00:58 Also some people like to substitute the oil with butter, take like a tablespoon of butter
01:02 and melt it, and put it in there.
01:04 All right I am going to blend this together well.
01:09 And now I am going to add 1 cup of all-purpose flour, and 1 fourth tsp. of salt.
01:18 And that is the base batter for crepes.
01:20 If you are going to make a sweet crepe what I like to do, is I like to add 1 tsp. of vanilla
01:26 extract, and one tablespoon of granulated sugar.
01:29 If you are making a savory crepe, leave out the vanilla extract, leave out the sugar,
01:35 and add an extra half tsp. of salt.
01:44 There we go.
01:45 Now if for some reason it is pretty lumpy and you can’t get the lumps out, you can throw
01:51 Now some people will chill this for about an hour in the refrigerator, I don’t do that,
01:56 I don’t find it necessary, but you certainly can if you are having trouble with your batter.
02:01 And now this batter is ready to go.
02:03 All right I am going to turn the heat on the stove between medium and medium high.
02:07 Now I just have an 8 inch non-stick skillet here, they do have a crepe skillet that you
02:15 can buy, I will put a link down below if you want to get one of those, or they also have
02:18 these little crepe making kits that you can get that are pretty cool, I will put a link
02:23 down below in the description for those as well.
02:26 Now once our pan is getting heated up, I am also going to take a little bit of butter,
02:30 not a whole lot, and we will put it in the pan.
02:36 I have ladle here and it holds about a quarter cup of batter, if you don’t have a ladle like
02:42 this you can just use a quarter cup if you want, but this works really nicely.
02:46 And then what I do is I am going to come in here and grab some batter, and I am going
02:52 to pour the pan, or tilt the pan, lift it off the heat, tilt it up, and just go in here
02:58 and pour this in here, and then tilt the pan, like that.
03:06 Put it back on the heat, and then this is going to take oh about a minute, minute and
03:11 a half, on this side.
03:14 What we want it to do is we want it to get nice and dry on the top.
03:19 And then we are going to take a spatula, and just come underneath here, whoops, and flip
03:31 it over, like that, that wasn’t the best flip.
03:38 And just like pancakes the first one, doesn’t usually turn out the best, but that’s okay,
03:44 you can still eat it.
03:45 Now when you flip it over on this side it is just going to be there, for 10, 20 seconds.
03:50 Okay, and if you look at this side that is ideally what you like to see, these little
04:01 blotches on there, that looks great, I am going to put it over here.
04:07 Tilt it up, get some batter, turn it over, and you can just go ahead and stack them up
04:25 on each other, they won’t stick.
04:29 All right now that our crepes are done, it is time to prepare them.
04:32 There are some many ways that you can make a crepe, you can do a sweet crepe, which is
04:36 what I am doing, and you can do a savor, totally up to you.
04:39 Some of my favorite toppings are strawberries, Nutella, bananas; whip cream, cool whip, honey,
04:51 Drop a comment down below and let me know what your favorite kind of crepe is.
04:54 Right now I am going to show you a couple of my favorites.
04:57 And for this one I am just going to do a classic nutella one.
05:04 And so you just grab some nutella, however much that you want, I am not going to put
05:10 a ton on there, for the really big crepes that you get like at the crepe shop, usually
05:15 what I have seen is they will take it and they will fold it over like that, and then
05:20 they will fold it over one more time like that.
05:25 So that is a cool way to do one, one of my favorite ways, and then you can top it off
05:28 with powdered sugar.
05:31 Another favorite way of mine is we will grab some of this cool whip and then we will line
05:41 it with strawberries.
05:52 All right, and then on this one, I am just going to fold that over and then roll it up.
06:00 And then you can top it off however you like.
06:02 So there are a couple of my favorite ways to eat a crepe.
06:05 Again, let me know what your favorite way is.
06:08 All right our crepes are done, yummy, really easy to do, if I can do it you can do it.
06:15 I am Matt Taylor; this has been another episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, thank you for
06:19 joining me, as always if you have any questions or comments, put them down below, and I will
06:23 get back to you as soon as I can.
