Subject: Grandma’s house

Hi Miranda,
It was nice to see you at the park yesterday. We’re family, but we don’t see each other often enough! I want to talk about planning the family reunion* in July. Last year, we had it at Grandma’s house. She moved in February, and her home is too small now. Could we meet at your house instead? I can help you to prepare. What do you think?
Your cousin,
Brian

Subject: Another place

Hi Brian,
Thank you for planning the reunion, and you’re right. Grandma’s new house is too small! I’d love to invite everyone to my house instead, but I can’t. We’re going to renovate* our kitchen that month, so we can’t use my house. How about going to Westside Park? It has picnic tables, and kids always enjoy playing there. Or how about the community center by the river? I don’t know much about it, but I’ve been there before for other events. Thanks,
Miranda

Subject: Good idea

Hi Miranda,
Westside Park is nice, but it might be too hot there. I think the community center is a great idea. I looked at their website, and we can use the large rooms for $50 an hour. I have a work meeting until 3:00 p.m. today. After that, I’ll call and ask them about using one of their rooms. For the reunion, we’ll have to order food from a restaurant, but if everyone can help to pay, it won’t be too expensive. Thanks again for your help!
See you,
Brian

Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby was one of the most popular American singers and actors of the 20th century. He was famous for his singing, and many people today still enjoy his songs. When he was a child, Crosby’s parents had a record player,* and he often listened to music. When he was a university student, he wanted to become a musician, and he played the drums and sang in a band.

After university, Crosby moved to California with his friend Al Rinker. They wanted to become famous singers, so they began taking part in vaudeville shows. Vaudeville is a kind of performance, and the shows often have music, dancing, and magic. Their performances were popular, and they did many shows together. They also played jazz music, and Crosby was known for singing jazz songs.

From the 1930s, Crosby had his own radio show, and millions of people listened to it. Crosby also acted in many movies and TV shows. He was very successful in the 1940s. In 1945, he won an acting award for his movie Going My Way.

Crosby not only enjoyed singing but also playing sports. Golf was his favorite sport, and he helped to create a golf tournament. The tournament is still held every year. It is now one of the most famous golf tournaments in the United States. Crosby continued playing golf until he died in 1977. Although he died many years ago, people remember his beautiful voice, his acting, and his love of golf.
