The South Korean series Squid Game has gained millions of fans worldwide in its short time on Netflix, becoming its most popular show ever. The series has reached 111 million people in the 28 days since it was released, Netflix tweeted. It has beaten Bridgerton, which previously held the record with 82 million viewers in its first 28 days on the platform.

Squid Game tells the story of a group of people who are given a chance to win $38 million by playing traditional South Korean children’s games. However, losers are killed by the contest’s organizers.

While the show has been popular all over the world, there have been complaints that the show’s English subtitles are not accurate enough, and that English-speaking viewers are missing parts of the story. Korean American podcaster Youngmi Mayer tweeted that, because of the subtitles, “if you don’t understand Korean you didn’t really watch the same show.”

That hasn’t stopped the show from having a huge impact, however. TikTok users have been recreating one of the show’s challenges, where contestants try to cut the shape out of the center of a piece of traditional Korean dalgona candy without breaking the shape itself. Just like in the show, people have had difficulty cutting out the shapes.

However, not everybody has been happy with the show’s success. One South Korean woman received hundreds of phone calls from Squid Game fans when her phone number was accidentally used in the show. Netflix has since removed the number from the series.
