00:21 there’s more to Macau than slot machines
00:23 and roulette wheels. For over 400 years
00:26 it was a Portuguese colony. Ancient
00:29 Chinese temples sit on streets paved with
00:32 traditional Portuguese times.
00:34 Welcome to Macau. Macau is only a one
00:46 hour ferry ride from Hong Kong and is a
00:48 gambling mecca. In 2017 mainland Chinese
00:53 tourists made over 22 million trips to
00:56 Macau and spent two hundred and
00:58 seventy-three dollars per person. There
01:02 are 41 casinos in the region and the
01:05 gambling industry makes up 60% of GDP,
01:09 but there’s more to the city you don’t
01:12 have to spend your time throwing money
01:13 away in air-conditioned rooms.
01:20 This is Macau Peninsula, a large section
