1. Do you have trouble getting enough sleep? If so, a new game called Pokémon Sleep may be able to help. Pokémon Sleep is a free app you can download to your smartphone. The app can play music to help you fall asleep, and has a smart alarm that will wake you up at the best time — but it’s also a game.

2. Playing the game is very simple: you put your smartphone beside you when you go to bed, and it records how long and how well you sleep.

3. Longer sleep means more points, and you will find more Pokémon creatures on your app in the morning. You can then catch these Pokémon and add them to your team.

(1)Have you played any Pokémon games? If so, which ones?

(2)Why do you think Pokémon is so popular all over the world?

4. The app also follows your sounds and movements while sleeping, and tells you how well you slept. And it seems a lot of people aren’t getting enough sleep.

5. A survey in Japan by The Pokémon Company found that out of 900 people, almost 60% thought time to sleep was the most important thing in their daily lives. However, over 50% said they were not satisfied with how much sleep they were getting.

6. And although around 70% said they looked forward to sleeping, another 70% said they didn’t look forward to waking up. By making people’s experience of sleep an enjoyable game, the hope is that Pokémon Sleep will help people develop better sleeping habits, and make getting up in the morning something to look forward to.

(1)Are you happy with how much sleep you get?

7. However, according to Eurogamer, some people are already cheating when they play Pokémon Sleep.

8. Instead of using a smartphone, the game can be played using the new Pokémon GO Plus +, a device that helps automatically catch Pokémon creatures in phone games. And some people are using this device to pretend they’re sleeping when they really aren’t!

(1)What are your thoughts on Pokémon Sleep?

(2)Have you used any sleep tracking apps or devices? How did you find them?

(3)Do you have any tricks or routines that help you sleep better?
