1. A work by British street artist Banksy that shredded itself just after it sold at auction three years ago has been sold again for about $25.4 million. The sale is a record for Banksy and almost 20 times the price the work sold for in 2018 before being shredded.
2. Love is in the Bin was auctioned by Sotheby’s in London, and expected to sell for between $5.5 million and $8.2 million. About ten minutes after the auction began, the work sold for three times the higher expected price to a buyer who has not been named.

3.[responsivevoice voice = "US English Female" buttontext = ""]The piece is a half-shredded canvas with a picture of a girl and red balloon in the shape of a heart on it.

4. When the work last sold at Sotheby’s in 2018, it was just called Girl With BalloonAs soon as an unnamed buyer won the piece after offering $1.4 million, a hidden machine in its frame turned on and shredded half the canvas. The strips of canvas were left hanging from the frame.

5. Sotheby’s was criticized at the time for not finding the hidden shredder before the auction. However, the 2018 buyer took the work anyway — a decision that has been vindicated by the recent sale.
6. The shredded canvas quickly became one of Banksy’s most famous pieces, and Sotheby’s sent it to be shown in cities including New York and Hong Kong before the recent auction. Auctioneer Oliver Barker joked that he was scared to end the auction. He and other Sotheby’s staff were nervous that Banksy may have planned another surprise for the piece.
